OUR FLYING HOUSE

The day is Friday August 1, 2008, the day that 1200 square feet of our addition will be placed on the foundation. Even though Virginia Power told us only days ago that they could not drop the power to our neighbor's house (we are very grateful to our next-door neighbors for allowing us to put the crane in their backyard), they did show up at 9:00AM Friday to do the job. By ten thirty am, the 120 ton crane is in place (two additional 18 wheelers just for the counter weights), the setting team has arrived, 6 18 wheelers with the modular sections are parked throughout the neighborhood awaiting their turn. Then, unexpectedly I encountered a financial nightmare of problems at the bank with releasing loan funds, halting the entire project. My life long friend Lori came to the rescue. Meanwhile back at the house, Billy Rose, our contractor extraordinaire, Alana and my very good friend Eric convinced the crews to stay while we waited for the bank to print some money. It was a very stressful day, but the end result was great. All 6 modules were placed, and by 10:00PM, the electricity to my neighbor's house was reconnected, just minutes before Jane got home. The crane was dismantled the next day, and miraculously, there was no damage to their yard. All of this took place in glorious weather. We realized how lucky we were Saturday afternoon after all had left, down to the last of the crane company, when we had strong thunderstorms with hail!

SETTING A MODULE DOWN:
This video was taken by Eric from our second floor bedroom area as they set in the second floor module. Ragnar can be seen taking pictures only a few feet from the moving suspended module!
North American Housing Corporation, W. O. Grubb Crane Co., Swope Modular Construction (the modular setting carpentry team) and Rose Construction deserve credit for their impressive, expert teamwork and cool heads through this intricate process and our extenuating circumstances! Here is a glimpse of the north segment of the second floor being set in place by the crane and setting team...
